CEDO in Puerto Penasco

Located in the popular Las Conchas area, next to its newly restored whale skeleton landmark, the Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans (CEDO) provides educational and conservation programs about the Northern Gulf of California and its coastline. CEDO, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, offers a variety of eco-adventures including kayak tours through the Morua Estuary, ecotours to local oyster cooperatives, boat tours to Isla San Jorge (Bird Island), and exploration through the diverse underwater world of tidepools.

CEDO offers plenty of activities, and welcomes people of all ages to take part in hands-on learning. You and your family can learn more about the entire ecosystem from CEDO’s very knowledgeable staff through slide presentations, tours, talks, and walks through the desert sand.

Semana Santa in Rocky Point

More than 100,000 people came to Rocky Point during Semana Santa period this year. Rocky Point became one of the most popular places for tourist. People came to Rocky Point to enjoy its amazing beaches, its culture and friendly people. Rocky Point has grown so fast in the past last 5 years, a lot of people consider it as Cancun on its early days. Spring Break and Semana Santa are the most busy periods of the year due the vacation time for the majority of the students.

This year Rocky Point government implement the new tourist patrol, new units that helps tourist in all ways possible, giving them information, moving them around the city or helping them on emergencies situations.

The weather has been never so perfect before! All the beaches remain busy all day, where the majority of the population was on Sandy Beach. This year has been increased a 15% of the average tourist population than last year.

The most iconic activities for the tourist are: visiting the beach, hang out at “La loma” (a hill placed next to la Cholla Bay) and hang out at the malecon. At the beach, tourist can swim in the relaxing waters of Mar de Cortez, enjoy a banana boat ride, rent a fishing boat, or just hang out with friends at edge of the beach. La loma is a placed know for being the best place to drive ATV, and 4×4 vehicles. The malecon is the most popular place on Rocky Point, all of people gather around to have fun, eat a great meal, enjoy the Mar de Cortez view, buy souvenirs or hang out with friends in company of music. Semana Santa is well know for their events, a lot of regional groups at the malecon and play music all night.

Rocky Point Zipline’s new attraction is coming up!

Rocky Point Zipline.

First Zipline in Rocky Point. A 5 stages with a 1/2 mile long stage one of the longest in Mexico! The grand opening will be in mid of February to March 1st, get ready Spring Breakers!

“One year ago I had a vision of a great zip line course in Penasco so I made a few calls & with the help of Gus Brown, the city of Puerto Penasco & one of the best Zip Line companies in North America it is now a reality! Below are some videos showing some construction & testing. The videos show only 1 stage. They will have 5 stages with a 1/2 mile long stage being one of the longest in Mexico! Construction to be finished in a few weeks with a grand opening mid February to March 1st in time for busy season. This Zip Line company has built courses all around the world, has a 100% perfect safety record & they will run, manage & maintain the Rocky Point Zip Lines…The zip lines are located high above the ground so they will not effect any regular usage of the mountain..
Reminder this zip line course does not effect the normal everyday usage of the mountain in any way..Big thank you’s to Gustavo Brown & the city of Puerto Penasco for working w/ us to make this happen.. Opens mid February to March 1st.. “

Whale Watching on Rocky Point

Whale Watching is a natural show and soon they will be soon on Rocky Point. After grey whales have filled up on massive amounts of krill that come to the surface in the Bering Sea, they migrate to the Sea of Cortez. Sea of Cortez offers an ideal temperature for these whales to give birth to their calves. During this time of year the whales will mate and give birth to their calves only to return north again and start the process from the beginning. Sea of Cortez is wide open and you will feel like is an ocean. This event happens only once at year!

The best time for whale watching on Rocky Point is on February. February is the month when the majority of the whales arrive to Mexican waters.

Many of sail company offers a trip to see the whales. Some of them offer free drinks like water or margaritas.
